Dr. Christopher Perumalla is an Associate Professor (Teaching) in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. He is a passionate educator, who has been teaching in lecture and laboratory courses for the past two decades. Chris is also an innovator and a visionary leader. He strongly believes in harnessing the advances in technology in creating novel instructional methods. This has led to him designing and delivering the Faculty of Medicine’s first online course in Basic Human Physiology. The generic framework of this course and the pedagogy has been used to develop several other online courses in the Life Sciences programs at the University of Toronto. Several thousand students have taken these online courses over the past several years. Chris has harnessed his experience as an educator and academic counsellor in identifying a gap in translating student desires to pursue a career of their choice in medicine and health sciences. This led him to design and develop the Faculty of Medicine’s Youth Summer Program (MED YSP), which has thus far impacted thousands of students. He obtained his Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from Osmania University in India, and a second Master’s and Doctoral Degrees from University of Waterloo, Canada.
